REALITY FIGHTING IV RESULTS; Sandull wins Super Heavyweight Championship

RFIV5.jpg (26706 bytes)Kipp Kollar’s REALITY FIGHTING series is just what this sport needs, a well run well promoted event that brings the local mma competitors together. The last installment of these events, REALITY FIGHTING IV was well run and promoted. Shows like this is what makes Kipp Kollar the leader in the Tri-State areas promoters race, he gives the new and unknown fighters the opportunity to showcase there skills, and the more experienced fighters a chance at reaching the next level of this sport.

Taking place at the Marist High School Gymnasium in Bayonne, New Jersey, this event had plenty of action.  With the SUMO start followed by KO’s, submissions (including two fighters being put to sleep and one almost being thrown over the top of the ring pro-wrestling style) plus a decision and the crowning of a new Super Heavyweight Champion, Glen Sandull made this event as entertaining as any other event I’ve ever attended. With UFC veterans Matt Serra and Phil Baroni and Pride FC veteran Tim “OBAKE” Catalfo as well as NFL’s Tiki Barber in attendance Kipp seems to keep bringing in the celebs for these shows, which is great for the sport.

Striking Viking's fight canned

I was looking forward to seeing Jakob Lovstad fight, but due to a problem with Romeo Gray-Real's medical clearance, Jakob's fight was canned. By the way Jakob looked ready for this fight.

Queens native wins first fightRFIV3.jpg (47036 bytes)

If you’ve visited my site, then you know I visit the local NYC gyms, during one of my visits to the New Punch Gym is Astoria Queens, I had a chance to see Gus Indjeyiannis training for this fight, during that training session he was not only focused, but his stand up was awesome, then on fight night he knocks Rocco Giordano out in a little more than a minute. This was Gus’s first fight and he showed more patience than some seasoned pro’s do, (and wicked right) when I asked him where he learned the patience from he said from his trainers and training partners at CMA and Sitan. Keep your eyes on Gus Indjeyiannis, I’ve got a feeling he’s on the right path in this sport.

The Dark Side

As always with everything good there’s the “dark side” the only dark side of this event was not the fighters or promoter nor the judges, it was the referees, these guys are not mixed martial arts refs, they’re boxing refs. Mr. Hazzard you’ve got to change this, this sport needs refs that know mixed martial arts. While safety of the fighters was the main concern, they just don’t know the sport well enough. Let’s try to get refs who know mixed martial arts.
